Random HP thoughts that's been bugging me...

Am I the only one that finds it kinda...strange...that Harry and Ginny's kids were all named after people who were important to Harry? And even if we say that Ginny didn't want to name her daughter after someone (like Percy named Molly) and Luna was Ginny's friend as much as Harry's but... what about the boys? That's what bugs me. Their first born is named after Harry's Father and Godfather. Their second second, after Harry's mentor and...whatever Harry considered Snape to be. I'm sure Ginny was fond enough of Dumbledore but he wasn't a mentor to her like he was to Harry and I doubt she cared much for Snape no matter his role in the war. Regardless, why wasn't either of their sons named after Ginny's brother, Fred? I mean, the two obviously had a thing for naming their kids after people, since even Lily has Luna's name for a middle name. Do I sense some... balance of power issues going on in that

No, you aren't the only one who finds it strange. Some people theorize that Ginny might've suggested the idea to him, but there's nothing really supporting that.

I also think it's a little OOC for Harry to be naming ALL his kids after people he knows, when he grew up dealing with the Wizarding World's expectations caused by a name (The Boy Who Lived) and should know the power of a name (The whole "He Who Must Not Be Named" schtick) by now. I can't imagine that in all his years of having kids, Harry never stopped to think what type of expectations they were forcing onto their kids by naming them what they did. Especially Albus Severus Potter. Named after a famous Light wizard, AND someone whose entire life is probably theorized about whether or not he was really a good man or not? I feel sorry for that kid.

I think what happened is that J.K Rowling was trying to go for something heartwarming, but once you stop to think about it, it's just...confusing and not much in character. The only character that makes sense is Lily Luna. Late mother, living best friend of Ginny. James Remus is like he expected the Marauder spirit to be reincarnated in him or something, while Albus Severus, as I said before, is just...unfortunate.

Iirc, Rowling wrote about Albus Severus that Harry named him like that in order to - I don't remember her wording, only the general meaning - sth like "giving Albus and Severus another chance for their names having good connotations".

And when it comes to naming children only after people important to one parent, not to both of them... it's still better than in the case of Anne Shirley and Gilbert Blythe's children - all of them (except neutral Joyce) are named after Anne's friends relatives and family members (sometimes after their surnames) or after herself (Nan) ;)
